‘Wolf of Wall Street’ Producers Looking to Make NFTs

According to recent reports, the producers of fan-favourite 2013 movie, Wolf of Wall Street, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, are looking towards web3 and to making NFTs. This, as a means to monetise merchandise from the valuable IP.

Quick Takes

  • Red Granite Pictures partners with Aventus to create ‘The Wolf of Wall Street Experience’, featuring NFT drops.
  • NFTs will be launched in Q2 of 2023, and purchasers will receive limited access to an invite-only event to celebrate the film’s tenth anniversary.
  • Aventus’ carbon-neutral, Polkadot-based layer 1 blockchain offers enhanced scalability, speed, and security for the NFTs, which will be usable across 50+ blockchains.

The Potential NFTs

The film’s rights holders, Red Granite Pictures, have partnered with a web3 solutions provider for enterprises, Aventus. They will create ‘The Wolf of Wall Street Experience’. In this, a series of NFTs will be a part of the experience.

‘The Wolf of Wall Street Experience’ will allow for the web3 community, and fans of the film to access exclusive content. As well as this, receive rewards, and get experiences through a selection of NFT drops. Purchasers of the NFTs, which are due to launch in Q2 of 2023, will receive limited access to an invite-only event to celebrate the film’s tenth anniversary.

Aventus Network, who are creating the NFTs, is a layer 1 on Polkadot, and is carbon neutral. Being on Polkadot means that they can utilise the enhanced scalability, speed, and security which the blockchain hosts. The NFTs will also be able to be used across 50+ blockchains, including the industry-standard Ethereum.

Aventus’ Founder & CEO, Alan Vey, said: “The Wolf of Wall Street is one of the most iconic films across not only popular culture more broadly, but specifically within the blockchain community. We’re thrilled to be able to bring this film to Web3 and to be a part of a historic moment for the industry as blockbuster becomes the latest sector to realise the benefits of NFTs in community building and engagement.”

Interestingly enough, Jordan Belfort (IRL), who made a hard-to-see cameo in the film, released his own NFT collection in 2021. He also named himself a “cryptocurrency guru” last April. Also, he purchased a Cryptopunk for over $400,000 in October of 2021.

About Wolf of Wall Street

Wolf of Wall Street is a top 2013 released drama/comedy starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, and Jonah Hill. It follows the real life story of Jordan Belfort, who was known during his financial career as the ‘wolf of Wall Street’.

To clarify, Belfort is a former stockbroker who became infamous for his fraudulent and unethical behavior. This led to his conviction for securities fraud and money laundering. Belfort founded the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont, which employed a “pump and dump” scheme to defraud investors. He spent 22 months in prison and was ordered to pay restitution to his victims.

His memoir was later turned to the big screens, as Red Granite Pictures and Martin Scorsese. They made it into a big hit.

The Wolf of Wall Street explores various themes, including greed, corruption, excess, and the pursuit of the American Dream.

The flick was well-received for its energetic direction, strong performances, and satirical take on the financial industry. It was nominated for several awards, including five Oscars (including Best Picture), but it ultimately won none.

Also, it had a Guinness World Records entry for “most swearing in a film”.
